Privacy and Scripture

Your private record

Daily Portion works without a reader account. Your name, prayers and answer notes, practices, Bible highlights, Study Notes, track closings, progress, and settings remain in this browser on this device unless you deliberately export or share them, or enable optional cloud continuity.

A Daily Portion backup or readable journal can contain private prayers and notes. Save or share those files only somewhere you trust. Removing browser storage or the installed application may erase the only local copy, so periodic backups are recommended.

Optional cloud continuity

If you enable cloud continuity, Supabase Authentication stores your email identity. Supabase also stores your approved-device list and synchronized operational state, including track progress, highlights, schedules, preferences, and completion records. Strict row-level authorization limits those records to your signed-in identity and an approved device.

Your name, prayers and answer notes, Study Notes and their metadata, practice writing, track-closing reflections, and retained journal material are encrypted in your browser before upload. Daily Portion does not keep a general account key that staff or a database administrator can use to casually read that writing.

Email can recover your account identity, but it cannot decrypt the private writing by itself. A new device must be approved by an existing device or use the one-time recovery code. If every approved device and the recovery code are lost, the encrypted private writing cannot be recovered. Revoking a device stops future cloud access but cannot erase a record already stored locally on that device.

Deleting the cloud account permanently removes its authentication identity, approved devices, synchronized cloud copy, and Shared Track memberships. A group hosted by that account is also removed. It does not silently erase the local record already held by the device making the request.

If you join a Shared Track, its members can see the group display name you choose and how many portions you have kept in that track. They cannot see your email address, prayers, Study Notes, highlights, practice responses, reflections, devices, or other tracks. Leaving or closing a group does not remove anyone's personal track record.

Sharing Scripture and portions

Sharing a Bible verse or a daily portion never includes your Study Notes, prayer record, highlight color, practice writing, or track closing. Private writing has its own separate share action.

The public-domain WEB translation may include verse text in a share. Connected publisher translations share the canonical reference, translation, attribution, and Daily Portion link without copying licensed verse wording into the share payload.

The Ember

If you enable scheduled Embers, the notification service stores a device push address, a delivery hour, and a time zone. It does not store your name, prayers, practices, reading history, or journal. The notification contains a quiet reminder and no private content.

Scripture sources

NET passages are requested from the official NET Bible service when you open them, so that service receives the passage request and the ordinary technical information involved in an internet request.

Connected Bible translations are requested from YouVersion when you open them. YouVersion receives the requested Bible version and passage plus the ordinary technical information involved in an internet request. Daily Portion does not require a YouVersion account or send your private Daily Portion record.

CSB, NKJV, NLT, and KJV passages are requested through Daily Portion's protected API.Bible connection. API.Bible receives the requested version and chapter plus ordinary technical request information. Its required fair-use report uses random device and session identifiers; it does not receive your name, prayers, practices, progress, or journal.
